Vincent Phan

Vincent The Khai Phan, age 29, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 25, 2001.  "Vinny" was born on February 24, 1972 in Saigon, Vietnam.  Vinny spent most of his life in Madison with brothers, Thomas and John; and sisters, Catherine and Elizabeth.  He attended Verona and Orchard Ridge Elementary and Middle Schools, and graduated with high honors from Madison Memorial High School.  Vinny graduated with high honors in 1994 from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations.  He began his career in gymnastics and cheer coaching as a Badger cheerleader at the UW and continued his work at various gyms around Madison and later in Ohio.  Vincent spent several years coaching in Jasper, Indiana, and most recently coached at Westfield Gym in Indianapolis.  In 1998 he was presented with the Devoted Service Award by the National Cheerleader Association in appreciation for his many years of dedicated work.  He led his Jasper cheerleading teams to several national victories and was voted one of NCA's best trainers.  His honest nature, dedication, and loyalty gained him friends wherever he worked.  Vincent valued joy; he loved simply and deeply, and was loved by whole communities.  Vincent is survived by his parents, Tam and Christine; brothers, Thomas, John and Paul; sisters Catherine Elizabeth, Anh Dao and Jacqueline Nguyen; nephew, Benjamin Nguyen; nieces Amanda and Nina Dang; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.  He will be remembered with love forever.
